Trailer
A meteorite hits a small German town – and the local citizens' office has to deal with the chaos. Original score for Task Force Querlitz, ZDF's first adult animated sitcom, produced by PixelPEC.
Listen
Every cue was written for its scene – from the cheerful title theme to a brass funeral chorale that moves from dark emotions to something more hopeful, before opening up into a rhythmic synth-pop piece that echoes the soundscape of the main title.
About the project
Task Force Querlitz is ZDF's first animated series for adults. After a meteorite strike, a small German town descends into chaos – and four overworked employees of the local citizens' office are tasked with restoring order. The series balances bureaucratic satire, science fiction and social parable.
My work
It started with a demo for the main title, developed in close collaboration with director Arne Hain. The result: a drum machine groove, a dark synth bass and wide synth harmonies, topped by a slightly naive, upbeat melody – the cheerful façade of a town quietly falling apart. Beyond the title, every cue was written tightly around the narrative of its scene, which took the score into unexpected territory: an 80s synth-pop sound-alike, a screaming hardcore track and a solemn funeral piece for brass.
Behind The Scenes
In the making-of, I talk about the role of the music: shifting the focus to the characters' inner emotional lives amid the chaos around them – and holding on to the seriousness that the show's deliberately exaggerated satire of sensitive social issues could easily have lost.
